The wait is almost over maggots! Slipknot has released their brand new track when we needed it most, and it is intense! We fans have waited six long years for this moment, and, let me tell you, it was worth it!
The track entitled, The Negative One starts off creepy and chilling with faint noises in the background. The suspense kills you! The anticipation! By about second 25, the guitar comes in with a deep riff roaring out of your speakers. At some point during this song, I wondered if it was new at all because it sounded so much like out of the Iowa record or around that era. As soon as Corey kicked in with the vocals, I knew it was new. It sounded like a mix of his recent vocal style and his Iowa era vocal style. As the speed and intensity of this song progressed more and more, the more my brain was exploding! This new Slipknot was sounding brutal by the second! This was like a rebirth of the old, raw, and aggressive 'Knot with a sense of maturity and focus.
Overall, the vocals are intense and stomach churning; the guitars are deep and brutal; the bass is heart-throbbing and chunky; the percussion is bright and loud; the samples are eerie and crawling; the DJ scratching is chilling, and the drums are fast and tight.
At this point, it's unknown who is behind the drums or filling in on the bass, but it's clear that the bass parts would've made Paul (R.I.P.) smile ear to ear, and the drum parts are a great compliment to what Joey brought to this band. It seems like the two never left.
Remember, this track is only a sneak peek of what's to come. Can we expect greatness? From hearing this song, it's safe to say "yes", and we greatly anticipate the release of this record. Keep a look-out on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, maybe something else might pop up out of nowhere!
