Act I begins with a Christmas Eve party at Mayor Stahlbaum’s where magical toys brought on by Uncle Drosselmeyer include one Nutcracker doll to Masha. The Nutcracker doll is broken in a fit with Fritz leaving Masha saddened, eventually falling into a deepened dream state. Upon her dream, the Nutcracker comes to life and we witness the battle with the Rat King and his mice. The Nutcracker and Masha then travel to the Land of Peace and Harmony. One of the highlights came in Act II as the emissaries performed. Representing Africa, Asia, Europe, Russia, and Spain, each were comprised of a duo performing a celebratory dance for the Dove of Peace. Each performance was powerfully received by the audience as they never withdrew a smile nor weakened their applause.
The elite members of the Moscow Ballet also welcomed performers from local companies to perform alongside on stage, proving how inspiring a shared passion can leave behind an unforgettable production. The tour of The Great Russian Nutcracker is an event one should not miss. Included with the tour is the opportunity to take a photograph with one of the talented ballerinas. They also provide merchandise and memorabilia to add to the experience. Using the score created for the two part act, Pytor Tchaikovsky left behind a legacy that has blended with an astounding choreography in Russian Classical Ballet that has truly stood the test of time.
