I want to bring light to this glorious EP. Even though it is only 5 tracks long, this is no dissapointment! In fact, it was more than I expected from only 5 songs. It almost felt like double the duration. When you are into the music, all sense of time fades away, it simply ceases to exsist.
Nine Inch Nails here is Trent Reznor and Aticus Ross.
1) Branches/Bones: This extended play initiator is classic NIN. It is subtle while being heavy and loud. It is like a taste of what is ahead. It's a gut-punch that gets you ready for the roller coaster that is Nine Inch Nails.
2) Dear World: This is the track that you jam to while you are sitting at a desk and filing paper work or organizing your cluttered desk. You know, chores and mediocre tasks of a variety. This is that song that keeps you moving, focused, and pumped. It is one of those songs that you want to last forever. It's really invigorating.
3) She's Gone Away: This song seems to be the embodiment of sheer pain that one feels when a loved one leaves you. The feeling like nothing else matters. The feeling of dragging yourself along to do things that need to be done. The deterioration of your mental and physical state. The torture of the loss. It is a heavy-hearted track and hits you right in the chest. You sure can get lost in the music and sounds. Check out the video below, it is one of my favorites on the EP.
4) The Idea Of You: I foresee this song as the "mosh-pit starter". The moment this song starts, people will start running, jumping, and beating each other at a concert. A song concert-goers WILL get into. This is upbeat and heavy! A tough song that requires such a responce from the audience.
5) Burning Bright (Field On Fire): This conclusion of this EP ends on a high note. Big, open sounds to open your mind and let you take it all in. I feel only Nine Inch Nails has the ability to have such a sound. Something about the way the music feels, sounds like wide open arms, heart, and mind. A great big sound that I will never get tired of. "Break through the surface and breathe" are lyrics that absolutely motivate you to push through and carry on! I especially like the way those lyrics are sung along the backdrop of these open sounds. Big finish to leave you satisfied.
As I said, this EP was worth the wait! Trent never lets down, no matter what he does. This EP is pure gold and I highly recommend you go out and buy it people. Buy it!!! It's worth every cent.
If you have never heard of Nine Inch Nails, let me tell you, NOTHING has ever influenced me more than to see one man change music history.
